A Maryland man swam for hours to reach help for his family, including two children, after their boat capsized in a storm off Maryland's Eastern Shore.

John Franklin Riggs climbed rocks along the shoreline in the dark and knocked on the door of the first house he saw after swimming three miles early Wednesday.

"He came to the right house," said Angela Byrd, whose dog's barking awakened her. She found 46-year-old Riggs outside, soaking wet and barefoot.

"He said, 'I've been swimming since sundown; I need help,'" she told the Daily Times.

Byrd called 911 and rescuers were soon on their way to the 16-foot Carolina Skiff that capsized near Deal Island, southwest of Salisbury. Life jackets saved the boaters' lives, Sgt. Brian Albert of the Maryland Natural Resources Police said.

This was re-broadcast today on Fox News. George Zimmerman, the man accused of killing Florida teen Trayvon Martin, gave an exclusive interview to Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity. Also sitting down for the interview was Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara. In the first part of the interview, Zimmerman discussed what he calls a "tragic" situation in recounting the night of the shooting. Zimmerman first described the incident that spurred him to become a community watchman, saying, "In August of 2011, there was a home invasion. A young lady was home with her nine-month-old baby, and they broke in her sliding glass door. She barricaded herself in the upstairs bedroom, and my wife was home by herself. She saw the people that burglarized her run through our backyard with their belongings. Even though my wife wasn't certain what happened, that was enough to scare her, shake her up. I promised her I would do what I could to keep her safe." Zimmerman revealed that he carried a weapon with him at all times, except when he was at work, and contended that he had never heard of the Stand Your Ground law until after the shooting.

CNN’s Robyn Curnow caught up with former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush in Zambia for an interview that mostly centered on the work they are doing there at a clinic for cervical cancer. But the reporter “couldn’t help” but ask Bush about his reaction to the NSA leaks from Edward Snowden. Her first question: “Do you think he’s a traitor?”
Without directly labeling Snowden a “traitor,” Bush answered, “I know he damaged the the country,” adding “the Obama administration will deal with it.” The former president also defended the NSA surveillance programs he put in place following the attacks of September 11th, 2001. “I put the program in place to protect the country and one of the certainties is civil liberties were guaranteed,” Bush said.
Asked whether there is any “compromise” between security and privacy, Bush said, “I think there needs to be a balance, and I think as the president explained, there’s a proper balance.” Curnow noted Bush’s reluctance to criticize President Obama, something that his former vice president hasnot shied away from. “It doesn’t do any good” to critique Obama, Bush said. “It’s a hard job. He’s got plenty on his agenda. And it’s difficult. And a former president doesn’t need to make it harder.”
Bush also said he “could care less” about polls showing more people have a favorable view of him since he left office, saying the “only time” he “really cared” about polls was on Election Day. “Ultimately history will judge the decisions that I made and I won’t be around because it will take a while for the objective historians to show up. And so I’m pretty comfort with it. I did what I did. I know the spirit in which I did it.”
